Spring Garden Bakery & Coffee

About the Bakery

The story of Greensboro’s longest standing bakery began in the early 1980’s as a group of local artisanal bakers who sought to open a natural foods bakery near UNCG. They named the bakery “Our Daily Bread”. After several years, “Our Daily Bread” was renamed Spring Garden Bakery after one of Greensboro’s most famous and historic streets. Spring Garden Street is the road that leads students, professors, neighbors, and Greensboro citizens past the little bakery. In the years following, Spring Garden Bakery began serving cakes, pies, assorted morning pastries, cookies, brownies, bars and most importantly – MUFFINS. Spring Garden Bakery Muffins could be described as world famous and are believed to be “the home of the original pumpkin chocolate chip muffin”, a coffee shop favorite no matter where you go. And yes, Greensboro, Spring Garden Bakery continues to pride itself on “stuffin the muffin”.

Although Spring Garden Bakery has changed ownership over the years, one thing remains constant: the tasty product, a warm greeting when you walk in the door, and the loyalty of tens of thousands of customers for over 40 years. Spring Garden Bakery was, is, and will always be a Greensboro tradition. Please come see us!

About the Café

In 1997, Preston’s Café, a lunch only specialty sandwich shop, opened in a new business park near the Greensboro airport. Five years later, after seeing the need for corporate catering in the growing Triad market, ownership changed the name of the café to Rudy’s Café and Catering, beginning a long-standing Piedmont tradition.

In 2018, the owners of another Greensboro tradition, Spring Garden Bakery, approached ownership about purchasing the café and catering business. In July of 2018, that purchase became reality. In January 2022, a rebranding of Rudy’s Café and Catering was undertaken, opening the door for a second Spring Garden Bakery location and an expansion of the “yummy treats” well known to the community.

Spring Garden Bakery and Café continues many of the same traditions, menu items, recipes, and relationships that have been poured into the place for over twenty years. Spring Garden just does it with a twist – fresh baked breads for sale and sandwiches, larger dessert menu offering, House Roasted Daily Fresh Coffee and Specialty Coffee Drinks, and a new and improved box lunch program featuring scratch made bread and fresh baked desserts.

Spring Garden Bakery and Café prides itself on using only the freshest ingredients, sourcing locally when there is a choice, and providing a scratch made meal from start to finish – including our homemade desserts.
