Accessible Outdoors

Spending time outdoors offers life-changing benefits for physical health, mental well-being, and a sense of connection to community and place. Visit Greensboro wants everyone to experience these benefits, regardless of ability.

We know that people who are differently abled often face barriers to outdoor recreation, from uneven terrain and limited accessible facilities to safety concerns and a lack of clear information. That’s why Visit Greensboro is proud to support efforts that emphasize accessibility and inclusivity in outdoor spaces, ensuring everyone feels welcome, safe, and supported when exploring outdoors.

In partnership with Outdoor NC, we are working to build and promote more inclusive outdoor experiences—because the outdoors should be for everyone.

Our Goals: Outdoors for All in Greensboro

  • Raise awareness of accessibility challenges and opportunities in our parks, trails, and outdoor facilities.

  • Clearly communicate the accessibility features of local greenways, nature parks, and historic routes.

  • Create inclusive, life-enriching experiences for individuals with disabilities, their families, and communities.

  • Encourage local partnerships to improve access and promote inclusive outdoor programs and events.

  • Celebrate diverse outdoor voices and support efforts like Black Folks Camp Too, which champion equity and connection in nature.

Accessibility Matters

  • 1 in 7 people globally lives with a significant disability, making it the world’s largest minority.

  • Travelers with mobility-related disabilities in the U.S. alone spent $60 billion on travel in a recent 12-month period.

  • More than half of today’s travelers seek immersive, off-the-beaten-path outdoor experiences—something Greensboro offers in abundance.

By prioritizing accessibility, we’re not just doing the right thing—we’re enriching our community, strengthening tourism, and making the outdoors a place of belonging for all.
