Backstage with Journey

My name is Nikki Sanz, I am a senior at Elon University, and the new Greensboro Convention & Visitors Bureau intern this summer.  I also intern with the Greensboro Sports Commission and the Greensboro Coliseum.  You can find me volunteering at sporting events that come through town, reporting the city’s best attractions, and helping backstage at the Coliseum.

Journey2017Greensboro1400X580-40bc3c82ca.jpgMonday, June 12, I had the opportunity to work with Greensboro Coliseum Event Manager Chris Kelly when Journey came to town.  I assisted the VIP coordinator during the VIP experience, which entailed a luxury reception with appetizers, drinks, raffles, and gift bags full of Journey merchandise.  I also assisted with the meet and greet; I managed the crowd, helped the event staff, and dropped off gift bags to their dressing rooms.

Journey dominated the rock world in the 70s and 80s. On April 7, 2017, Journey was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The rock community was both shocked and thrilled when Steve Perry reunited with the band on stage to receive the award. The band’s current lead singer, Arnel Pineda, finally got to meet his hero, Steve Perry, after waiting 35 years.

Growing up listening to Journey, it was an honor to work the event and hear them perform live.
