January 6, 2010 - COMING TO THE HISTORIC CAROLINA THEATRE: FILMS, DANCE, LAUGHTER & MUSIC FOR EVERYONE!

Greensboro, NC – The New Year is underway, but it’s not too late for one more resolution: “I resolve to see it at the Carolina Theatre!” The Carolina Theatre’s spring season highlights include a number of classic movies carefully selected from audience feedback, comedy at its best, an epic dance production, bluegrass, a jam band, and a favorite country crooner. To use a trite, yet accurate phrase, there’s something for everyone.

Carolina Classic Movie “The Godfather”

Tuesday, January 12, 7:30pm

1972. 175 minutes. Rated R. Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece features Marlon Brando in his Oscar©-winning role as the patriarch of the Corleone family. A chilling portrait of the Sicilian clan's rise and near fall from power in America, the film masterfully balances the story between the Corleone's family life and the ugly crime business in which they are engaged. Also starring Al Pacino, James Cann and Robert Duvall.

Carolina Classic Movie tickets are only $5.00!

Carolina Classic Movie “The Godfather II”

Tuesday, January 19, 7:30pm

1974. 200 minutes. Rated R. This companion piece to the original “The Godfather” continues the saga of two generations of successive power within the Corleone family. Coppola tells two stories in Part II: the roots and rise of a young Don Vito, played by Robert De Niro, and the ascension of Michael (Al Pacino) as the new Don. With the film, Coppola has produced a movie of staggering magnitude and vision, and undeniably the best sequel ever made.

Carolina Classic Movie “The Godfather III”

Tuesday, January 26, 7:30pm

1990. 162 minutes. Rated R. In this third film in the Corleone trilogy exploring the themes of power, revenge and love, Pacino reprises the role of family leader Michael Corleone. Dominated by two passions, Michael wants to free his family from crime and find a suitable successor. That could be Vincent (Andy Garcia), but he may also be the spark that turns the hope of legitimacy into an inferno of mob violence. Also starring Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, Eli Wallach, and others.

Carolina Theatre Presents James Gregory

Friday, January 29, 8:00pm

For over two decades, the unforgettable caricature of veteran comedian James Gregory has stood grinning: his shirt un-tucked, his arms outstretched, a carefree welcome to a down-home, hilarious comedy experience. It’s storytelling at its best: rib-tickling reflections on life from the front porch. Gregory’s show turns the clock back to a time when life was simpler; to a better time, before the death of common sense; a time when people sat on the front porch and actually talked to each other without a cell phone to their ear!

Tickets* are $25.50, or $23.50 for students, seniors and military.

Carolina Classic Movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”

Tuesday, February 9, 1:30pm & 7:30pm

Please note: Two show times, including a matinee

1961. 115 minutes. Not Rated. Starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard. A New York writer falls in love with an eccentric party girl named Holly Golightly who is determined to marry a millionaire, but he puts a wrench in her plans.

Carolina Theatre Presents Ballet Folklórico de México Saturday, February 20, 8:00pm

In 1952, Amalia Hernández founded the Ballet Folklórico of México on a quest to rescue the dancing traditions of Mexico. Her search became a need to show the beauty that started with the pre-Colombian civilizations and grew with the Hispanic influences of the Vice royal era to the popular strength of the Revolutionary years. As the present fades, the Lords of Heaven and Earth come back to life, the Jaguars, the Gods born of human flesh, and 30 different cultures that blossomed in centuries past all combine to leave a trail of color on the stage.

Tickets* are $34.50, $29.50, or $24.50, depending on location.

Group discounts available for parties of 10 or more.

Carolina Theatre Presents Dailey & Vincent

Friday, February 26, 8:00pm

With a whopping seven IBMA Awards in 2008 including Entertainer and Album of the Year, The New York Times is calling Dailey & Vincent "...the most celebrated new bluegrass act of the last few years." Headed by Jamie Dailey (formerly of Doyle Lawson's Quicksilver) and Darrin Vincent (formerly of Ricky Skaggs’ Kentucky Thunder), the band's true strength lies in the uncanny harmony of their vocal trios and quartets. Combine that with Dailey & Vincent's impeccable arrangements and flawless performance and what you get is bluegrass gold!

Tickets* are $24.50, or $22.50 for students, seniors and military.

Carolina Classic Movie “Monty Python’s Life of Brian” Tuesday, March 9, 7:30pm

On a Midnight Clear 2000 years ago, three wise men enter a manger where a babe is wrapped in swaddling clothes. It is an infant called Brian, and the three men are in the wrong manger. For the rest of his life, Brian finds himself regarded as something of a Messiah, yet he's always in the shadow of this Other Guy from Galilee.

Carolina Theatre Presents Ronnie Milsap

Friday, March 26, 8:00pm

Milsap has always moved successfully between genres, amassing 40 #1 records, ten gold and platinum albums and six Grammy awards along the way. Known best for his country tunes, if you were to hear his latest venture, you would probably have no idea the singer on “Just For A Thrill” is a country artist. After all, it’s a pop album of classic standards without an ounce of twang, an album that Milsap has been waiting decades to make. Said his friend, Ray Charles, “You got a lot of music in your heart, son. You need to follow your heart.” And so he did!

Tickets* are $32.50, $29.50, or $22.50, depending on location.
