November 24, 2009 - Two Olympic Medalists to Skate in Greensboro December 18th

Greensboro, N.C. –- North Carolina 2011, the Local Organizing Committee for the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, is helping boost local charitable efforts in Greensboro and the Triad region, while also raising the profile of the sport of figure skating in the community. NC 2011 has arranged for two Olympic Silver Medalists, Nancy Kerrigan and Paul Wylie, to participate in the annual Sealy/Fox 8 Holiday Concert featuring the Greensboro Symphony at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, December 18, 2009.

The Holiday Concert has become a popular annual tradition, with attendance in 2008 of approximately 10,000. Admission to the concert consists of a donation of canned goods to the local food bank and last year over 640,000 cans of food were collected at the Greensboro Concert as well as a companion event in Winston-Salem.

“We were thrilled that Nancy Kerrigan and Paul Wylie both accepted our invitation to participate in the Sealy/Fox 8 Holiday Concert,” said Hill Carrow, Chairman of the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. “Paul Wylie is our Honorary Chair for the Championships so he was a natural. Nancy is possibly the most recognized name in figure skating in the world, so her involvement will take the concert to a whole new level.”

The Sealy/Fox 8 Holiday Concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. The concert consists of a musical variety show of holiday favorites. Both parking and admission to the concert are free with canned food donations.

To further assist with the Fox 8 and Greensboro Symphony goals of record attendance and record canned food collections this year, a special 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships giveaway for all attendees will be provided.
