October 29, 2009 - Natural Science Center Endorsements Transcend Politics Signature Science Innovation Finds Broad Support (Including a First-Ever Bond Endorsement by the Rhino Times)

Greensboro, NC - The Natural Science Center’s hard work and vision to build a one-of-a-kind science destination and top-ten tourist attraction in Greensboro has transcended politics in the name of science education, community development, economic development and a guaranteed return on the initial investment.

A unanimous Greensboro City Council, the News and Record, Rhino Times, Greensboro Partnership and over sixty large and small businesses throughout Greensboro have endorsed the Natural Science Center’s plans to build a state-of-the-art science and tourism-driving attraction. A large number of citizens, members, medical professionals, community advocacy and education-based advocacy organizations are also backing the construction of the Center’s Science City, USA master plan.

Glenn Dobrogosz, Executive Director of the Natural Science Center commented, “North Carolina recently ranked #6 in the nation as a tourism destination. Building on the successes and dramatic growth spawned by Animal Discovery, the Natural Science Center has been blessed with broad community support to build a signature, top-ten state attraction that will expand science-based tourism and help showcase all of the amazing cultural amenities that Greensboro already has to offer.”

The checks and balances of our political system are important. It is also important to recognize when topics or projects transcend political differences and generate broad support in the name of community good. Across the political spectrum, Natural Science Center Bond advocates recognize:

- Positive tourism growth and new tax revenue from out-of-county visitors

- A one-of-a-kind science campus (combined aquarium, zoological park and museum) attraction

- Advancement of science education

- Only AZA and AAM accredited institution in North Carolina one of 13 nationwide)

- Wholesome family and quality-of-life experiences

- A public-private partnership that works as designed

- Direct and indirect support of 253 jobs

The Natural Science Center is located at 4301 Lawndale Drive in Greensboro, NC and is home of the Animal Discovery Zoological Park (featuring tigers, gibbons, wallabies, meerkats, lemurs and many other unique animals), as well as the brand new OmniSphere Theater (North Carolina’s only 40 foot digital dome experience).
